Top 5 Job Categories Most at Risk from AI

Ask AI

AI is changing everything. From the way we write to the way we shop to the way we answer phones — artificial intelligence is increasingly stepping in to do the work humans have done for decades. So we figured, why not ask AI which jobs it thinks are most in danger of being replaced… by AI?

After scanning through a study based on over 200,000 chats with Microsoft’s AI chatbot, we found out which professions could be most affected by the rise of intelligent machines.

Here’s your ThinkFives countdown of the Top 5 Job Categories Most at Risk from AI — straight from the source.

Administrative & Clerical Jobs

What They Are:
These are the behind-the-scenes roles that keep offices running — organizing records, entering data, booking appointments, and supporting business operations.

Why They’re at Risk:
These jobs often follow repetitive rules and predictable patterns — a dream scenario for AI automation. Bots don’t need coffee breaks to file forms or schedule meetings.

Examples Include:

  • File Clerks
  • Bookkeeping Clerks
  • Receptionists

Sales & Customer Support Roles

What They Are:
Customer-facing roles where communication is key — whether it’s handling complaints, answering product questions, or helping close a sale.

Why They’re at Risk:
AI chatbots can now carry out entire support conversations, answer FAQs, and even process orders with little human help. Many companies are already using them 24/7.

Examples Include:

  • Customer Service Representatives
  • Sales Representatives (Services)
  • Interviewers (except eligibility and loan)

Media, Content & Writing

What They Are:
Creative and editorial jobs involving writing, editing, proofreading, and content creation for everything from ads to blogs to reports.

Why They’re at Risk:
Generative AI tools like ChatGPT can now write full articles, edit text, and generate ideas — often faster (and cheaper) than a human writer or editor.

Examples Include:

  • Writers and Authors
  • Technical Writers
  • Proofreaders and Copy Markers

Translation & Communication Specialists

What They Are:
Jobs focused on translating languages or facilitating communication between people across different languages or formats.

Why They’re at Risk:
AI language models have become shockingly good at real-time translation — even in complex or nuanced contexts. Human translators may soon become plan B.

Examples Include:

  • Interpreters and Translators
  • Telephone Operators
  • Correspondence Clerks

Information Processing & Data Handling

What They Are:
These jobs involve sorting, processing, or analyzing information — think forms, spreadsheets, and structured data.

Why They’re at Risk:
AI is built to process massive amounts of data quickly and accurately. If your job is about crunching numbers or organizing data, AI is already eyeing your desk.

Examples Include:

  • Tax Preparers
  • Medical Transcriptionists
  • Payroll Clerks

Final Thought

AI isn’t just writing poems and passing bar exams — it’s also quietly edging into a huge range of everyday jobs. While this doesn’t mean humans are obsolete, it does mean it’s time to think smart, stay adaptable, and maybe start learning how to work with AI, not against it.

Which of these job categories surprised you most? Let us know — and don’t worry, we promise we’re still 100% human over here… for now. 😉
