Squid Game’s high-stakes premise, brutal violence, and social commentary on wealth inequality resonated with audiences worldwide. The show’s shocking twists, suspenseful gameplay, and memorable characters made it a global phenomenon. Still not a series for most students.
The Crown (Netflix): Released November 5, 2023 (Season 5)
The Crown chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, from her early days on the throne to the present day. Season 5 focuses on the turbulent 1990s, a period marked by political scandals, family tensions, and a growing public criticism of the monarchy.
Why it was popular?
The Crown’s lavish production, historical accuracy, and nuanced portrayal of the British royal family make it a captivating drama. Claire Foy and Olivia Colman’s Emmy-winning performances as Queen Elizabeth II, along with the stellar supporting cast, continue to draw viewers in. And for good or bad, the last season focuses heavily on Princess Diana.

Along the way, she must navigate her new life at Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts, and contend with her strained relationship with her mother, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones).

Wednesday’s gothic humor, Tim Burton-esque aesthetic, and Jenna Ortega’s captivating performance as the iconic Addams family character attracted a large audience.
